About One-Third Acre and the Author

June 30th, 2008

I’ve been fascinated by efficiency of time, materials & money since I was a young girl. I grew up composting in the 1960’s before it was cool and was enchanted with recycling just before the materialistic 80’s made me look strange. I’m suddenly very sustainably fashionable after all these years!

One-Third Acre is the size of my property that my idealistic long-term goal is for it to be self-sustaining for food & energy. It has a 100-year old house that we renovated re-using as many original material as possible and searching out others at salvage lots. Meanwhile, the nitty realities of life interfere including how to pay for it, how to find the time to get it done and how to convince my family to be a larger part of it!

I have been guided & supported in my choices by my family, friends, faith community and environmental community groups.

I share my world through these lenses.
